Sabiha Gökçen airport was selected as the top airport for increasing its number of passengers the most İn Europe İn 2009.
Istanbul’s Sabiha Gökçen International Airport, located in the Asian side of the city, has won the "Airport Traffic Grovvth Avvard" given by an aviation website.
Aviation news and analysis vvebsite anna.aero selected Sabiha Gökçen as the top airport for increasing its number of passengers the most in Europe in 2009.
New international terminal opened in October 2009 Sabiha Gökçen competed against airports vvith passenger capacity between 5 million and 10 million. Sabiha Gökçen Airport increased its number of passengers 48 percent in 2009 compared to the previous year. The airport’s new international terminal building opened in October 2009 and is operated by a multi national consortium of Turkey’s Limak Holding, GMR Infrastructure and Malaysian Airports Holdings Berhad.
The consortium won the management rights of the airport for 20 years on May 1, 2008, paying 1.9 billion Euros
