Sabiha Gokçen Airport Effects The Second Rental Payment Amounting 76 Million 514 Thousand 851 Euros To The Undersecretariat Of Defense Industries

Having marked one of the most important ‘Build – Operate – Transfer’ projects in Turkish aviation history, Istanbul Sabiha Gökçen International Airport Investment, Development and Operation Inc. (ISG) effected its second rental payment to the Undersecretariat of Defense Industries as part of the Contract on the Execution of Istanbul Sabiha Gökçen International Airport New Terminal Building and Its Complementaries Project. 76 million 514 thousand 851 Euros submitted to Murad Bayar, Undersecretary of Defense Industries by Nihat Ozdemir, Vice President of the Executive Board of ISG as the second rental payment actualized by ISG under the Contract on the Execution of Istanbul Sabiha Gökçen International Airport New Terminal Building and its Complementaries Project. Making an evaluation on the occasion of submitting the rental, Vice President of the Executive Board of ISG Nihat Ozdemir said: “We are so glad to present our second rental payment to the Undersecretariat of Defense Industries. In attaining this success with ISG, consistent growth of Turkish economy has played a major role besides our personal and corporate endeavors.”

Founded in partnership by the triple consortium comprising Limak Holding, GMR Infrastructure and Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad in 2007, ISG took over the 20 year operational rights of Istanbul Sabiha Gökçen International Airport for 1 billion 932 million Euros as a result of the privatization tender of the construction project of the new international terminal building and its complementaries. ISG submitted its initial rental amounting 76 million 514 thousand 851 Euros to the Undersecretariat of Defense Industries in February 2011. Concerning the Contract on the Execution of Istanbul Sabiha Gökçen International Airport New Terminal Building and its Complementaries Project, ISG presented its second rental also amounting 76 million 514 thousand 851 Euros to the Undersecretariat of Defense Industries with a ceremony.

The Undersecretary of Defense Industries, Murad Bayar; Vice President of the Executive Board of ISG, Nihat Özdemir; Member of the Board of ISG’s Indian partner GMR, G. Kiran Kumar; Member of the Board of ISG’s Malaysian partner MAHB, Tan Sri Bashir Ahmad; CEO of ISG, Gökhan Buğday as well as executive managers of ISG and HEAŞ were present at the ceremony organized as part of the second rental payment by ISG to the Undersecretariat of Defense Industries.

Nihat Ozdemir: “The consistent path that Turkish economy has covered is effective in our achievement”
Taking the floor at the ceremony the Vice President of the Executive Board of ISG, Nihat Ozdemir said they handed over the 76 million 514 thousand 851 Euro first rental payment of Istanbul Sabiha Gökçen International Airport Investment Development and Operation Inc. (ISG) which has marked one of the most important ‘Build – Operate – Transfer’ projects in Turkish aviation history and that they are extremely proud of effecting the second payment on time. Nihat Ozdemir continued:“I would like to thank all our employees who have been working hard and successfully carrying out entire processes to turn our airport into a fast growing facility which increases its number of passengers every passing day, a stunning airport with its service quality.” Pointing out to the fact that the achievement displayed operationally and keeping the cost discipline enabled them to fulfill their promises promptly and with a huge pride, Ozdemir noted: “In attaining this success, consistent growth of Turkish economy has played a major role besides our personal and corporate endeavors.”

“We took the airport over in 2007 and gained ground in short time”
Nihat Özdemir told that Sabiha Gökçen International Airport commenced to offer services for Turkish civil aviation in 2001 and was successfully operated by Airport Operation and Aviation Industries Inc. (HEAŞ) within the Undersecretariat of Defense Industries until 2007. Mentioning that the 20 year operational right of the airport was taken over by ISG, founded in partnership by the triple consortium comprising Limak Holding, GMR Infrastructure and Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad, for 1 billion 932 million Euros as a result of the privatization tender actualized in 2007, Nihat Özdemir said: “We have covered considerable ground in a short while.”

“With 47 airline companies, we are flying to 68 international and 26 domestic points”
Explaining that Sabiha Gökçen International Airport was furnishing service to 47 thousand passengers in 2001, Nihat Ozdemir added: “As of today, I would proudly like to say that we have come up with 13.7 million passengers by the end of 2011.” Reminding Sabiha Gökçen Airport currently works with 47 airlines successfully Ozdemir remarked that they are flying to 68 international and 26 domestic points at present. Nihat Ozdemir emphasized that the airport knows no boundaries in the quality service competition with ISG Airport Hotel coming in the first place and food-courts, shopping and duty free sections, all contributing to our aim of offering our passengers a comfortable flight experience.

“Our passenger capacity has exceeded 13 million with an 18% increase”
Also evaluating the passenger traffic in the airport, Nihat Özdemir said: “When we analyze our passenger traffic we see that during January – December 2011 period, the number of domestic passengers at Sabiha Gökçen reached 9 million 117 thousand with a year-on-year increase of 19 percent. And the number of international passengers in 2011 reached 4 million 571 thousand rising by 16% as compared to January – December period of the year before.” Pointing out that the total number of international and domestic passengers reached 13 million 688 in 2011 with a year-on-year increase of 18%, Nihat Ozdemir noted that the passenger graphics will show a rising momentum in 2012.

Nihat Özdemir carried on as follows: “We expect that the construction of the second runway project, being a milestone for Istanbul Sabiha Gökçen International Airport, will be commenced within this year. With the completion of the second runway, per hour plane capacity of our airport which is currently 35 will be increased to 70 with two planes being able to land and take off simultaneously. Thus, Sabiha Gökçen Airport will assume a key role in relieving Istanbul’s air traffic. Considering that it will take quite a while to build the third airport, the second runway to be put into service at our airport will postpone the need for a third airport for a time.”

“Sabiha Gökçen receives awards over and over again”
Stating that Sabiha Gökçen International Airport is deemed worthy of numerous awards both domestically and internationally, Nihat Özdemir said: “The new terminal building of our airport was selected the ‘Best Public Services Development Project’ at ‘European Property Awards – 2011’. And last December, Sabiha Gökçen, competing in the international category of the same contest, was also honored with the ‘Best Public Services Development Project Award’ at the ‘International Property Awards – 2011’.” Informing that the airport was deemed “European Steel Design Award” by European Convention for Constructional Steelwork (ECCS), Nihat Ozdemir also reminded that they have attained the first place among the airports with passenger capacities of 10 million and higher at the “Airport Traffic Growth Awards” by “anna.aero”, world’s leading aviation, airline network news and analysis web site. Telling that Sabiha Gökçen Airport was also selected as the airport with the highest passenger traffic increase in Europe among the airports with a passenger capacity of 5- 10 million in 2010, Ozdemir added: In addition, we were also considered worthy of the ‘Highly Commended’ Award in the South Europe category by Routes Europe, being world’s most important event, both in 2010 and also 2011.”

Having paid 1 billion 932 million Euros for these operational rights, ISG also actualized an investment of 500 million Euros. The new terminal building and its complementaries - covering a total area of 320 thousand m2 - which will contribute to the rapid growth of Istanbul Sabiha Gökçen and bring its annual passenger capacity to 25 million was built as an environmental friendly construction with a contemporary architecture perception and at international standards. The New Terminal Building of Istanbul Sabiha Gökçen International Airport designed by Tekeli-Sisa architectural partnership has been awarded the “Best International Public Services Development 2011” in its own field at the ‘International Property Awards’ organized in association with Google and Bloomberg television. To win the ultimate ‘World’s Best’ award in the ‘International Property Awards’, Istanbul Sabiha Gökçen International Airport competed with the top projects of Asia Pasific, Africa, America and Middle East regions. Sabiha Gökçen International Airport the New Terminal Building was also deemed worthy of ‘Europe’s Best’ title in ‘European Property Awards – 2011’ in its own category.

THE WORLD’S BEST PROPERTY COMPANIES ANNOUNCED IN LONDON
