1st NATIONAL CARGO FORUM STIRRED HUGE INTEREST


Representatives of public and private sectors at aviation and transportation industries came together at the 1st National Cargo Forum, organized by Istanbul Sabiha Gökçen International Airport Investment Development and Operation Inc.

13 November 2008, İstanbul – The Istanbul Sabiha Gökçen International Airport Investment Development and Operation Inc. (ISG) has held a first in Turkey and organized the 1st National Cargo Forum, gathering Representatives of public and private sectors at aviation and transportation industries.

Way to establish closer cooperation through the sector was searched at the conference, which was was held in Holliday Inn Hotel, under ISG patronage.

ISG’s CEO, Gökhan Buğday said in his speech at the Forum: “İstanbul Sabiha Gökçen has a unique position, as the closest gateway to the world for a large hinterland which covers Istanbul’s fast growing Anatolian side, as well as locations like Bursa, Gebze, İzmit, Sakarya, Yalova which are the most important regions for Turkish Industries. This is one reason that we keep our cargo services at a very high esteem. We have every ability to meet the cargo needs of different industries like automotive, chemicals, shipbuilding and maintenance which are active within our catchment area, providing services at superior level.”

It was pointed out, at speeches made in the Forum, that İstanbul Sabiha Gökçen International Airport was a center of cargo industry’s focused attention for its recent investments, its commercial hinterland and easy access opportunities.

Besides ISG’s CEO, Gökhan Buğday, Asst. General Manager, Operations of Racih Tokaç, Müjdat Mandal, General Manager of UTIKAD (Freight Forwarders Association - TURKEY), Nurettin Beşinci, Asst. Mayor of Pendik District, Emre Büyükgöz,, General Manager of İstanbul Sabiha Gökçen International Airport Transporters Cooperative, Ahmet Aniş, Representative for Turkey of Miras Aircargo and Mehmet Eraltan, Representative for Turkey of Euro Asian Cargo were among the Forum’s speakers.

The effects of the global crisis were also considered in the Forum, and it was stated that the business marked a 10 % drop compared the same period last year. In this context, the loss estimation for the 1st quarter of 2009 is stated at 6 milion dolars.
