Which documents are required if I travel with pets?

Animal passports have been a legal requirement since 1 October 2004. Anyone wishing to take a dog or cat abroad will need the blue EU document for their four-legged friend. It is valid in all 25 member states of the European Union, and confirms that the animal has been inoculated against rabies. The international certificate of inoculation previously issued will apply for twelve months from issue. For further information please contact your veterinarian or the Federal Department for Consumer Protection, Nutrition and Agriculture.
