GMR Group is a Bangalore headquartered global infrastructure major with interests in infrastructure and agri-business. In over 30 years, since its inception in 1978, the Group has built an extensive presence across the key infrastructure sectors, including Energy, Airports, Highways and Urban Infrastructure.

The Group has developed India’s first Greenfield airport, the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Hyderabad which has an ultimate design capacity of 40 million passengers per annum. Additionally, the Group is engaged in the Brownfield development of the Delhi Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA). Recently, in July, 2010, GMR inaugurated the new Terminal 3 (T3) at IGIA which has raised the capacity of the airport to 37 million passengers per annum. T3 which is one of the largest airport terminals in the world was constructed in a record 37 months. In addition to Hyderabad, Delhi and Istanbul Sabiha Gokcen airports, the Group has expanded its airport portfolio with 2 airport concessions in Maldives which were awarded in 2010.


The Group is also operating and developing a sizeable energy portfolio in India which comprises of three operational power plants representing an installed capacity of 823 MW and eight projects with a total capacity of 7,648 MW which are under development. The company acquired a 50% stake in InterGen N.V in 2008 which is one of the world’s leading independent power producers operating across four continents with 12 operating power plants and a gross capacity of 7,658 MW. The acquisition, the largest ever of a global energy utility by an Indian company, was given the Infrastructure Journal’s “Infrastructure Acquisition of the Year” award. GMR is also developing an 800 MW power plant in Singapore.

Additionally, the Group is also the leading developer and operator of highways in India and holds concessions for six highway and two road projects measuring a total length of around 602 km.

The Group has also forayed into Sports and owns the Indian Premier League promoted Delhi cricket team, christened - the Delhi Daredevils.

The Group discharges its social objectives through its Corporate Responsibility Arm – the GMR Varalakshmi Foundation which operates in the thrust areas of education, health, hygiene and sanitation, empowerment and livelihoods and community development.
