İstanbul Sabiha Gökçen International Airport Environmental Assessment Report
This study was conducted under the full consultancy and organization of DEGOL Environment Engineering Consultancy and Trade Limited who will be reffered as DEGOL within the full text of this report.
The Undersecretary of the Industry of Defence (SSM) was assigned by the Council of Ministers during the meeting held at 20th of April 1988; for establishment of a Advanced Technology Park & Airport (ITEP) Project at Pendik-Kurtköy. In line with the continuously increasing air traffic, especially in domestic lines, current terminals became insufficient and The Undersecretary of the Industry of Defence (SSM) decided to construct the Sabiha Gökçen International Airport (SGIA) with the capacity of 10.000.000 passenger/year. However, after the tender stage with some improvements in the design and new arrangements in the existing terminal buildings total capacity of SGIS will be in access of 25 million pax. New terminal will be constructed under Built-Operate-Transfer (BOT) Model.
SPV, the owner of the project has been involved also in the funding. The report is exempted from the Turkish EIA Regulation by the Ministry of Environment and Foresty. However, the funding organizations request an environmental baseline report preparation and Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) Report preparation of the part of the project which is under the responsibilty of SPV.
The Environmental Baseline Report (DEGOL-REP-SPV-SGIA-001) was prepared to describe the existing environmental condition of the project area and its surrounding.

Istanbul Sabiha Gökçen International Airport Operation Environmental Management Report
An EMP has been developed for the operation of SGIA.The management plan considers both the needs of airport safety and environmental conservation throughout the operation phase of the Project.
This EMP establishes a five-year plan for managing the environmental isssues arising from the operations activities at SGIA. After the first 5 years of operations, the monitoring results will be evaluated and considered for the development of the life time EMP.
EMP serves for the objective of eliminating potential environmetal and social impacts, or to reduce them to acceptable levels, comply with regulatory requirements, and continuously improve the environmental management at SGIA.
The plan consists of mitigation, management, monitorinf and institutional measures to be taken during operation stages of the airport. The plan also includes the actions needed to implement these measures.
